Ductwork Takeoff Software for Faster HVAC Estimates

DuctIQ is ductwork takeoff software focused on the part of a mechanical bid that takes the longest: measuring duct. Upload the HVAC drawing and DuctIQ traces the supply, return, and exhaust runs, measures them in linear feet at the drawing's scale, and rolls them up by size.

The result is a duct takeoff you can read and check in minutes instead of building it run by run in a spreadsheet.

Why ductwork is the hardest part to take off

Duct is everywhere on a mechanical plan and it changes size constantly. A single trunk might step down through four or five sizes, branch repeatedly, turn with fittings, and carry different systems on the same sheet. Measuring all of that by hand means scaling every segment and keeping a running tally per size — exactly the kind of repetitive work where small errors creep in.

Get the duct quantities wrong and the whole bid is wrong, because duct linear feet drive material, fabrication, and labour.

How DuctIQ measures duct

DuctIQ reads the drawing's scale, follows each duct run, and reports the length in linear feet. Rectangular and round duct are both handled, runs are grouped by size, and fittings along the way are identified and counted.

From duct quantities to a finished bid

Once the duct is measured, DuctIQ assembles it with fittings and equipment into a single reviewable takeoff. You confirm the quantities, then export to Excel or CSV. Because DuctIQ also produces fabrication-ready shop drawings, the same measured duct can carry forward to the shop with gauge, material, and seam information attached.

Frequently asked questions

Does DuctIQ measure both round and rectangular duct?

Yes. Both rectangular and round/spiral duct are detected and measured, and round runs are handled distinctly from rectangular so the quantities are usable for buying and fabrication.

How does it know the scale of the drawing?

DuctIQ reads the drawing's own scale from the sheet and measures linear feet against it. When a sheet's scale cannot be read confidently, the affected runs are flagged for review rather than guessed.

Are fittings included in a duct takeoff?

Yes. Fittings are identified alongside the straight duct runs and included in the line-item takeoff.

Can I review the duct quantities before bidding?

Yes. Every duct line is shown for review so an estimator can verify the size and length before the numbers go into a bid.

Can I export just the ductwork?

The full takeoff — duct, fittings, and equipment — exports to Excel or CSV, where you can filter to the ductwork lines you need.
